Day 4: Shopping at Harajuku

(Photo: Kaiyi)

After Meiji-jingumae we proceed to shopping. This is a popular street at Harajuku, the Takeshita Dori. This is where the Japanese version of Singapore Far East Plaza Fashion can be found. This street is directly opposite Harajuku station on Yamanote Line. There is a Daiso shop along this street where everything goes for 100 yen. Even cheaper than in Singapore.

Visit Harajuku on a Sunday and you can see cosplayers hanging out with their friends. When you are there, be sure to eat the crepes. The crepes can be eaten as a main meal or dessert, depending on the stuffing. It cost on average 450 yen per serving.

Here are some suggestions on shopping for branded stuff in Tokyo.

1. The Agnes B is about 30% cheaper in Tokyo than in Japan. You can find an Agnes B boutique at Harajuku, Omotesando (opposite the side where Muji is). Omotesando is just opposite Meiji-jingumae entrance. I bought my bag there for S$154 and it cost S$205 (before GST) in Singapore. Kaiyi bought another bag and we bought one for our cousin. The service staff will deduct the tax directly so you don't have to go to the airport to claim the VAT.

2. Burberry Blue Label is only available in Japan.

3. There are many factory outlets like in Gotemba for the branded stuff. Cheaper but off season ones. Depending on brand, some are not cheaper than in Singapore.
